Adjustment Disorders

Adjustment disorder is a psychological response to a significant life change or stressful event, resulting in emotional or behavioral symptoms that are disproportionate to what would typically be expected. These symptoms, which can include sadness, anxiety, irritability, and difficulty functioning in daily activities, usually arise within three months of the stressor and can impair social, occupational, or academic performance. Treatment often involves psychotherapy to develop coping strategies, and in some cases, medication may be prescribed to alleviate symptoms.
